Hello from my BUNK BED!

CRAZYYYY!!!! I turned on my computer to write up a quick blog about tonight on microsoft word, assuming I do not have internet out here. I opened my computer and it connects to WIRELESS! Here at the Ikando house in Ghana. So, I am sitting on my top bunk bed, under my mosquito net, writing my blog on the internet!

Even crazier.....

Yesterday I quickly got to know one girl, Diana, from France. Her parents were born in Congo. Today, we worked together at the Autism Center... as we were leaving the internet cafe, she saw my notebook that had "Jessica Solomon" on it and asked, "Are you Jewish!?" I said, "Yes, why, are you?" And she said "YES!" So this girl that I had connected with on my first day, from France, and with dark black skin, is Jewish, and we are volunteering at the Autism Center in Ghana together!

Her story: Her mom grew up with a family in Ethiopia, and later, like many, went away. She lived in Congo. Diane's dad, from Congo, went to medical school in Paris, as did Diane's mom, where the two met. Her mom is a pediatrician and her dad is a GP doctor. Her mom keeps KOSHER and used to wear a wig and the whole bit, but does not any more. Diane does not eat pork or anything like that. How crazy is it to meet someone like that all the way here in Ghana!?

The two of us really want to travel to this ancient Jewish village just west of Kumasi, and we will write to them and try to visit there for a Shabbat.

Anyways, we cooked dinner together tonight, Me, Diane, and the two Swedish girls, and then went to the beach for "Wednesday, Reggae Night." It was a lot of fun, dancing and people at night by the beach.

Goodnight!!!
